Getting around

Bangor is a small city that is pretty walkable. However, it is quite hilly, with the Management Centre, Conference Venue (Music Building) and Main Arts (Main University building, the lunch venue, Teras, is also located there) on top of the hill in “Upper Bangor.” The train station, Pontio Cinema and High Street are beneath it on lower ground.

Arriving in Bangor

Unless you are arriving on the ferry from Dublin, most everyone will be coming through Chester, which is near the border of England and Wales. Make sure to sit on the right side of the train once you are past Chester to get spectacular sea views.

From the small train station, it is a quick trip to the Management Centre and conference venue. It is about a 10-15 minute walk that gradually climbs up to Upper Bangor. You can also get a taxi for a quick trip (less than 5 minutes) that will be relatively cheap (likely £4 or less).

Bangor has limited intercity public transport and no ride share services. However, taxis are cheap but I would recommend calling ahead. You can book when on the train (at least 20-30 minutes before to be safe) and have them watch out for your train arrival.

Conference Venue – Music Building

The music building is right across the road from the Management Centre. Upon exiting the Management Centre, cross the street (College Road), veering slightly to the right and you will see it.

Lunch Venue - Teras

Teras is the university canteen that overlooks the terrace of Bangor University. The easiest way to get there is probably to walk past the Music Building and down the stairs. On the right at the end of the stairs, you can enter the building. Walk to the end of the hallway and you will see the canteen.

Screenings - Pontio Cinema

Pontio Cinema is below the hill/in Lower Bangor. There are multiple ways to get down, but you can take the outside stairs at the side of the building in the map below if you get lost. You can also follow a student (you need a staff/student card )into the entrance outside of Teras (near arrow below) and take the elevator down to 0, which is where the cinema is.
